On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the publication of the Golden Bull, on 20 May 2022, the Archives of the Primate and Arch Chapter, in cooperation with the Christian Museum, opened a chamber exhibition in Esztergom, in the Cathedral Treasury.
An important factor in choosing the site was the fact that in the Middle Ages the Esztergom copy of the Golden Bull was preserved in almost the same place. In 1222, King Alexander II. issued the certificate. It was issued in 7 specimens, in this way they wanted to ensure its survival, and one of the specimens was stored in Esztergom at the Archchapter. The storms of Hungarian history are well characterized by the fact that all specimens have been lost today. The full text of the original document is known from the earliest copy in the possession of the Primate Archives, made in 1318. The decree issued in 1222 got its name from its gold seal, or bull.
The Treaty of Bereg, issued in 1233, was also preserved in the Primate Archives, on which King II.Alexander's original gold seal hangs, a seal similar to the one from which the Golden Bull took its name.
